Preparing Students for the Real World

Artificial intelligence is changing the world students will enter, and HISD has a responsibility to prepare them for it. That means students need to understand emerging technology and how to use it responsibly, but just as importantly, they need the distinctly human skills that will become even more valuable as technology advances.
That is the purpose of Future 2. Students build strong academic knowledge while developing critical thinking, problem-solving, communication, collaboration, creativity, leadership, and sound decision-making. The model combines core academic instruction with real-world experiences, projects, field experiences, and hands-on, screen-free Action Labs that give students opportunities to apply those skills.
Future 2 schools are not “AI schools,” and AI does not replace teachers or independently deliver instruction. AI literacy and age-appropriate exposure to AI tools are part of preparing students for the workplace they will eventually enter. Future 2 is designed around a much larger question: what will students need to know and be able to do to succeed in a world that will look very different from the one we know today?
