Houston ISD’s New Education System (NES)

Houston ISD’s New Education System (NES) is designed to strengthen daily instruction and ensure every student has access to a consistent, high-quality educational experience. The model emphasizes aligned curriculum, clear instructional expectations, and ongoing coaching for teachers, while adding capacity in classrooms with additional staff so educators can focus more deeply on teaching and learning. NES also expands student opportunities through courses like Art of Thinking and hands-on enrichment experiences that build critical thinking, problem-solving, and real-world skills. NES is not just a different curriculum, it is a stronger system for delivering instruction and meeting student needs every day.
NES schools have shown incredible academic growth, outpacing their peers in the state and nation. Students at the new NES schools will benefit from enhanced academic supports, more structured instructional systems, and expanded opportunities, including enrichment and travel experiences at no cost to families. Magnet programs and extracurricular activities will remain in place, reflecting the District’s commitment to scaling what is working so more students across HISD can succeed.
