HISD’s ratings have improved since 2023 as more students are now meeting state standards on test scores, narrowing campus achievement gaps, as well as preparedness for college, career, or military after graduation. 

As a result, there is a shrinking relationship between the average socioeconomic makeup of a student body and their academic performance. 

After three years of development and implementation, Houston ISD is ushering in a new era of educator compensation with its Pay-for-Performance (PFP) model, becoming the largest district in the country to adopt this comprehensive approach.

For campuses implementing the HISD curriculum, novels are embedded within the scope and sequence of the curriculum and are taught as part of the instructional units throughout the school year.

While Houston ISD saw increases in State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness (STAAR) scores districtwide, New Education System (NES) students saw over three times the growth on math and reading tests. 
 

Starting Aug. 1, Houston ISD Athletic Facilities will implement new entry rules as an added layer of security, in addition to the scanners and bag inspections already in place.
